The arts are fundamental to the cultural, civic, economic and educational well-being of a thriving democracy, and the public sector plays a unique and essential role in ensuring that the benefits of the arts accrue to all American communities.

State arts agencies (SAAs) are indispensable cultural assets to every state and jurisdiction. SAAs broaden citizen access to the arts in every corner of the country, preserve America's diverse cultural heritage and nourish the nation's creative capacity.
