Austin, Texas: Sixth Street from Congress Avenue to IH-35

On the National Register of Historic Places, Sixth Street is Austin's famous nightlife destination, with nearly 50 clubs and live music venues. Stand in the middle of the seven-block party and hear everything from jazz and reggae to country and rock.

With so many great venues and bands, being a music fan in Austin should be easy. Popular bands are often the hottest ticket, but you can also catch live music in the city's airport, grocery stores, record stores and even city hall.

Austin continues to gain favorability as one of the nation's top travel destinations.

Here is what some of the leading publications and research firms are saying:

  • Outside magazine names Austin the fourth best city to live in among the top 20 places in the United States. (July 2009)

  • After evaluating the costs of goods throughout the world, Frommer's Global Price Index lists Austin as one of the cities where visitors get more for their money. (July 2009)

  • The Mother Nature Network recognizes Austin as one of the 10 greenest cities in the country. (July 2009)

  • AmericanStyle magazine readers rank Austin #15 on the list of top art destinations in the country. (April 2009)

  • Austin is named one of the top 10 budget travel destinations for 2009 by Budget Travel Magazine. (January 2009)
