Question: How much money do state arts agencies receive from the National Endowment for the Arts?

Answer: Funds from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) provide more than $33 million to SAAs--approximately eight percent of all SAAs' revenue. While NEA funding is important for every state arts agency, it is particularly important in the 23 states where NEA dollars comprise more than 20 percent of the SAA's budget. Combined with state dollars, federal funds help the arts reach more communities across the country, especially underserved populations and children in school. The structure of federal funding is also extremely important, providing both stability and flexibility to SAAs as they work to address their state's unique needs.

For More Information: Full details on state arts agency revenue sources, including federal and state funds, can be found in NASAA's annual Legislative Appropriations Survey. More information on the state-federal partnership can be found at http://members.nasaa-arts.org/advocacy/creativity.shtml.
