Question: Where can I learn more about Internet blogs and the roles they are playing in the arts community?

Answer: Since the emergence of blogging as an obscure "techie" pastime in the 1990s, the function, focus and popularity of these on-line discussions have all significantly grown. More than 12 million adults regularly contribute to blogs, and about 57 million adults read them. In addition to serving as open journals and forums for individual expression, some blogs now play prominent network development roles: facilitating the exchange of knowledge, catalyzing activism, and supporting civic discourse within and across communities that might not otherwise intersect.

For More Information: A good assortment of current arts blogs can be found on the ArtsJournal Web site The Pew Internet & American Life project has also produced useful research that reveals who blogs and why. Learn more by reading Bloggers: A Portrait of the Internet's New Storytellers.
