As a national source of information on public arts funding, NASAA provides a knowledge network and fact base to help state arts agencies make informed policy decisions and put their own state's needs and experiences in context. Providing customized responses to member questions is a hallmark of NASAA. Did you know that state arts agencies (SAAs) invested nearly $9 million in direct grants to artists last year? Individual artists are a crucial part of a state's creative environment and SAAs support artists in a variety of ways. SAA support for individual artists has held steady over the years, making up a consistent portion of total grants and grant dollars. These grants take the form of fellowships, commissions, and various project grants. SAAs also provide information and services to assist artists build connections, showcase work and access information.
