Arts & Learning Resources for State Leaders

PACIFIC AND CARRIBBEAN U.S. TERRITORIES

Besides the mainland state arts agencies, NASAA members also include the islands of Guam, Northern Marianas, American Samoa, U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. The following Web sites provide an introduction to these islands.

U.S. Territories in the South Pacific:

The Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas: This site is for the tourist and visitor who wants to learn about this distant corner of the United States. The Marianas are a 500-mile archipelago of 14 islands that includes the commonwealth, as well as the southern most island, US Territory of Guam.

Guam: A good place to begin a visit to Guam, here you can find links to almost anything on the island from the public radio station to government Web sites, as well as the personal homepages of local residents.

Virtual Guam: Offers the visitor an opportunity to take a virtual tour of other villages on the island or get the latest local island news.

American Samoa: An eclectic page that provides a sampling of Samoan life from links that include a Samoan folk tale, a Samoan wedding and how to speak Samoan. It also provides you with the usual links to government and business.

U.S. Territories in the Caribbean

Puerto Rico: A virtual guidebook to this island commonwealth with information on geography, history and government, as well as tourist information.

U.S. Virgin Islands: The islands of St. Thomas, St. Croix and St. John are well-known vacation spots and the traveler will find useful information here from arranging a yacht to making hotel reservations. But the site also gives the visitor a flavor of everday life with its local news and links to island organizations.
