The North Carolina Arts Council has launched two new Web sites directed at cultural travelers: Discover Craft North Carolina, and the African American Culture Tour. Two more sites will be launched in the spring. Each of these sites was created to facilitate partnerships and cross-promotion opportunities for artists and arts organizations in the state. The sites are an outgrowth of the arts council's earlier Maps & Trails online effort, which initially created a consortium of summer performing arts organizations as the basis for online itineraries and an event calendar. The two new sites are based on this consortium model, which organizes cultural tourism marketing efforts by assembling like-organizations and artists. The arts council is currently exploring adding an education component for children and adults to each of these Web sites, possibly modeled after the Mint Museum.
